See Dhameka Stupa built by Emperor Ashok where Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Chaukhandi Stupa is another major stupa where he met his five ascetics. Visit Sarnath Archeological Museum displaying excavated artefacts and witness Ashok Pillar. Also get a chance to see the Lion Capital of Ashoka- the national emblem of India. Lastly, visit Mulagandhakuti Vihara where you will find a monastery with beautiful wall paintings. The monastery was built in the 1930s by the Sri Lankan Mahabodhi Society.
