A propos de cette activités
Check out a real Medellin barrio. In this case, get to know the newest city project: a giant, outdoor escalator for residents of one of Medellin’s poorest slums. It is 385 meters tall (1,296Ft.) and the tallest in the Western Hemisphere. For generations, the 12,000 residents of Medellin's tough Comuna 13, which clings to the side of a steep hillside, have had to climb hundreds of large steps, authorities say is the same as going up a 28-story building. Now they can ride an escalator, in what the mayor of Medellin said is the first massive, outdoor public escalator for use by residents of a poor area. Discover the reality and true atmosphere of this so-called rough area. This same area where social, government projects have improved the quality of life by widening walking paths, improving the foundations and appearances of surrounding houses, and providing space for residents to be outside, including plastic slides for children to play on, and enjoy their community. You will also see massive Graffiti art projects. This 3-hour tour takes you on a visit to the real Medellin, away from the traditional tourist areas, to provide a clear picture of the contrast with the old and the new modernized city. Entering Comuna 13 the tour starts with a visit to San Javier Public Library (Parque Biblioteca San Javier), an icon of hope that integrates all individuals peacefully while leaving violent days behind. Walk around this new safe barrio with the assistance of your personal guide/driver, a local person who knows his way around securely.
