Campesino Tour + Planting Trees

After a short 35 minute drive, we will arrive to a beautiful area dedicated to reforestation, owned and operated by Ecoterra Costa Rica, located in the mountainous area around the Children´s Eternal Rainforest. Here we will take a short nature walk where we will be able to discover the rainforest typical to the region and some of the unique animals found in this area such as the anteater, tinamus bird, coatimundi, morpho butterflies, several tropical bird species and much more. After the trail hike, we will plant a tree in the area specifically designed for this purpose. Afterwards, we will stop for a short visit to the San Jorge School. This is a one room school house, partially supported by Ecoterra Costa Rica. Here we will visit with the children, and share a delicious snack of fresh fruit to re-energize. Next, we will return to the van for a short 15 minute ride Los Toños Family Farm. Once we arrive, we will learn about the daily lifestyle of a typical Costa Rican farm family, their customs, traditions, and daily chores to maintain their farm. Next, we will tour the property through the plantations of products like black pepper, vanilla, yucca, coffee, banana, corn, and many other traditional crops. Then we will continue to a small patch of rainforest in the process of regeneration where we will discover many interesting species of plants and trees. Finally, we will enjoy a delicious lunch of fresh products from the farm prepared on a wood burning stove for the most authentic Costa Rican flavor, before returning to La Fortuna in the late afternoon.
