A propos de cette activités
Be picked up at 8a.m. from your hotel in Amman to drive to Pella. Enjoy the beautiful drive to Pella through the cities of Jerash and Ajloun with your knowledgeable English-speaking Driver. Pella is a village in North West of Jordan, it is located to the East of Al Masharih town; the city was constructed in the Hellenistic Era in the time of Alexander the Great. The first literary reference to the city is from the 19th century B.C. when it is mentioned in Egyptian texts as Pihilum, or Pehel. It was a flourishing trade center with links with Syria, Cyprus, as well as Egypt. On the division of Alexander's Empire, its name was later Hellenized to Pella, in honor of Alexander's birthplace. In the 7th century A.D. Pella was captured by Arab armies and was a significant city in the Umayyad Empire for over 100 years. In 747 A.D. Pella (along with much of Jordan) was destroyed by a huge earthquake, only a small rural community lived here afterwards during the Mamluk and Abbasid periods. After discovering the site on your own for an hour, enjoying the view of the Jordan Valley, and walking around you will be transported back to Amman. On the way back you may stop for lunch at your own expense.
